Funding from the Federal Government has enabled the College to incorporate the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen program into the school’s range of student activities. It is the only independent school in the region that is running the acclaimed program.
Concerned that many Australian children were growing up ignorant of food – where it’s grown, how it’s cooked and healthy eating – Stephanie Alexander launched a program to teach children the basics of planting, cooking and eating vegetables.
Students from Foundation (Prep) to Year 6 spend time planting, caring for and harvesting their produce. Students also spend time on food preparation and cooking in the school’s kitchen.
It’s a fantastic initiative which also gives children the chance to acquire new skills and knowledge in a non-classroom environment.
